Media library
Use this screen to manage files that editors can select in image and attachment fields.
Uploading puts a file in the library. It does not place it on a page. After uploading, select the file in the relevant image or attachment field and save that content. You can also upload directly from an image field, because its picker opens this same library.
Admin path: Content > Media library
Route:/files
Find a file
Enter at least two characters from the filename in the Filter by filename field. The list updates shortly after you stop typing. Clear the search to show the full library again.
Each file shows a preview, its original filename, and its Uploaded date. Select a filename to open the original file in a new tab.
Upload files
- Select Upload media and choose one or more files.
- Or drag the files onto the Media library. The screen shows “Drop files here to upload” while you drag.
- Wait for every progress entry to reach Done. Each file moves through Pending, Preparation, Upload, and Finalization.
- Check that the new files appear in the list.
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Files per file-picker action | Up to 100 |
| Size of one file | 32 MiB (roughly 32 MB) in the admin. Your website’s storage may impose a lower limit. |
If an upload fails, the progress entry shows the error and a message names the file. Try one smaller file and ask the website administrator about the limit.
The picker accepts any file type. Choose a format suitable for its destination, such as an image for an image field or a PDF for a document download. Selecting a file successfully does not mean every browser can display it.
Use descriptive filenames before upload. The Media library does not edit filenames after upload.
For example, workshop-room-entrance.jpg is easier to find later than IMG_4837.jpg. Check that the file contains no private information before uploading. Do not treat the Media library as private document storage.
Choose a file from an image field
Selecting an empty or filled image field, such as Card image, opens the Media library in a dialog.
- Select the image field.
- Search for the file, or upload or generate a new one in the dialog.
- Select the file’s row to place it in the field.
- Save the page, article, or other item.
Select Cancel to close the dialog without changing the field. To empty an optional field, use its Delete icon. This clears the field only; the file stays in the library.
Alternative text and copyright
The Media library stores files, not page-specific descriptions. Enter alternative text, captions, and copyright in the content blocks that show the image:
- The Image content block has Description, Alternative text, Source, and Source URL.
- Gallery items have the same kinds of fields.
See the Block editor for these blocks.
Delete a file
- Find the file by name.
- Select its Delete icon.
- Confirm the deletion in Confirm deletion. The dialog warns that the action cannot be undone.
Deleting a file can break pages that still use its URL. Check its use before confirming.
To replace a picture or document, upload the replacement first. Select it in each affected page, article, or download block and save those items. Open the public pages and check the new file. Only then consider removing the old one.
A file is missing or will not open
- Clear the filename search, then search for at least two characters from the original filename.
- Confirm that the upload finished, rather than leaving the screen while its progress was still running.
- Open the filename in the library to check the original. If that works but the page is wrong, check the page’s selected file and save state.
- If the original does not open, tell the website administrator the filename and error. Do not upload many duplicates while trying to find the cause.
Create an image with AI
Select AI generation to create images and upload chosen results into the library. In the dialog, describe the image, generate it, mark each result you want with Keep, and give it a Filename. Only results with both are uploaded, as JPEG files. See Content creation for the current workflow.
