Usage guide
Use Mailchimp when the website’s newsletter sign-ups should go to the organisation’s Mailchimp audience. An audience is the list where the organisation manages those contacts in Mailchimp.
When a visitor signs up through a newsletter form on the website, JORD adds them to the audience as subscribed, or updates them if the address is already there. The visitor’s name goes into the audience’s last-name field (LNAME), and the two-letter page language into a LANGUAGE field. Ask the account owner to check that the audience has both fields.
What you need
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| API key | A private credential for the Mailchimp connection. Get it through the organisation’s approved credential-sharing method. |
| Audience/list ID | The identifier of the intended audience. It is not the audience’s display name or a campaign ID. |
Confirm the audience with the newsletter owner before saving.
Set it up
- Open Website > Settings and scroll to Plugins.
- Find the Mailchimp card in the Newsletter group.
- Switch on the card’s Turn on switch. The card’s fields appear.
- Enter the API key and the Audience/list ID.
- Select Save at the bottom of the screen.
- Place a sign-up form where needed, such as a Subscribe section or the footer Newsletter group.
Check that it works
Submit a test subscription from the public site. Have the account owner confirm the address reached the right audience. If it did not, check both values and any confirmation steps required by that setup.
Likely mistakes
- While this plugin is on, sign-ups go to Mailchimp instead of Subscribers, even if Local newsletter is enabled.
- JORD newsletters are not sent to the Mailchimp audience. Send campaigns to this audience from Mailchimp.
- Do not switch newsletter providers or lists as a troubleshooting shortcut on a live website.
Do not post the API key in messages, wiki pages, or screenshots.
