Products

A product is one item in your webshop, such as a T-shirt. Each product has at least one variation. A variation is the version a customer actually buys, with its own name and price, such as “Size M”.

For example, sell a T-shirt as one product with the variations “Size S”, “Size M”, and “Size L”. Do not create three separate products, unless each size needs its own product page.

Note

Available on websites with a webshop. See Commerce.

Admin path: Commerce > Products
Routes: /products and /product/{id}

Find or create a product

Filter the list with Filter by name, which starts filtering after two characters, or with State: All, Public, or Draft. Each row shows the product’s state marker, name, and Updated date. Select a name to edit the product, or select Add product.

The list shows products in the current content language. To find a product in another language, switch the language in the sidebar first.

To remove a product, select the bin icon, Delete, in its row. The admin asks you to confirm and warns that this cannot be undone.

Download the product list

Select the download icon, Download product list, next to Add product. The spreadsheet, products.xlsx, lists the ID and Name of the products that match the current filters.

Complete the base data

In the Base data box:

  1. Enter the Display name. It is required.
  2. Add a short Description.
  3. Add Category tags so the product appears in the right categories.
  4. Add any General tags.
  5. Choose the main Image.
  6. Tick Hidden only if the product should stay out of product listings by default.

Hidden and Unpublish are different. Hidden keeps a published product out of listings. Unpublish takes the product off the public website, and customers can no longer order it.

Add properties

Use Properties for facts shown on the product page, such as “Material: cotton”.

  1. Select Add property.
  2. Enter the Property, such as “Material”.
  3. Enter the Value, such as “Cotton”.
  4. Use the up and down arrows to change the order, or the bin icon to remove a property.

Each variation can also have its own properties. Put facts that differ between variations there.

Set up variations

A new product starts with one empty variation in the Variations box. A product cannot be saved without at least one variation. To add another, select Add variation.

FieldWhat to enter
Display nameRequired. The variation’s name, such as a size or pack name.
SKUYour stock-keeping code, if you use one. If it is empty, JORD uses the product’s ID together with the variation’s ID.
Size/pack/etc.A short size or pack text, such as “500 ml”.
ColoursSelect Add colour, pick the Colour, and add a Display name, such as “Navy”. Add several colours if the variation comes in more than one.
Net priceThe price without VAT. The hint shows the Gross price customers pay.
VAT rateA percentage, only if this variation’s rate differs from the webshop’s default. Leave it empty to use the default, which the field shows in grey.
DescriptionA short description of this variation.
PropertiesFacts that apply only to this variation.
ImageA picture of this variation, such as the blue version.

Set the default VAT rate in E-commerce settings.

Add a promotion

Each variation can have one promotion. Fill in only the fields you need:

  • Promotional net price: the reduced price without VAT.
  • Lowest net price in the 30 days before the reduction: the lowest net price you charged in the 30 days before announcing the reduction.
  • Valid from and Valid until: when the promotion runs, in Central European Time. Leave them empty for a promotion without a start or end date.
  • Minimum quantity: the promotion applies only when the customer buys at least this many.

At checkout, the promotional price applies only between the two dates and only when the quantity is high enough. To end a promotion, clear all of its fields.

Add content, media, and attachments

  • Content: the detailed product description. It uses the block editor.
  • Media: the gallery visitors can browse on the product page. Select Add media, then choose a picture from the media library. Use the left and right arrows to change the order, or the bin icon to remove a picture.
  • Attachments: files visitors can download from the product page, such as a user manual. Select Add attachment, choose the file in the Attachment field, then add a Display name and Description. If the display name is empty, the field shows the file’s name in grey.

Set SEO and sharing

The SEO and sharing box has SEO title, SEO description, Share title, Share description, and Share image. If you leave the titles empty, they use the product’s display name.

See Saving, publishing, and SEO for how to write these fields.

Save and publish

The form footer has Save, Publish for a draft product, and Unpublish for a public one. A saved product also has Delete.

  1. Select Save to store a draft. Customers cannot see or order it yet.
  2. Check the variations, prices, and images.
  3. Select Publish. A new product is saved and published in one step.

Only published products can be ordered. If you unpublish a product, checkout leaves it out, even if a customer already has it in their basket.

  • Every variation has a display name and a net price, and the gross price hint is correct.
  • Promotion dates and prices are correct, or every promotion field is empty.
  • The public product page shows the right images, properties, and attachments.
  • A test order with the product completes at the expected price.
