Usage guide

Use Google domain verification when a Google service, such as Search Console, asks the website to show a verification code to prove the organisation controls it.

What you need

  • The verification code from Google’s HTML tag method. Google shows a tag like <meta name="google-site-verification" content="…" />. You need only the value inside content.
  • Access to the Google account that requested verification, or the person who owns it.

Set it up

  1. Open Website > Settings and scroll to Plugins.
  2. Find the Google domain verification card in the Marketing group.
  3. Switch on the card’s Turn on switch. The card’s fields appear.
  4. Paste the value into Code.
  5. Select Save at the bottom of the screen.

JORD then adds the verification tag to every public page.

Check that it works

After saving, ask the account owner to select Verify in the Google service. If it fails, check that the code was copied completely and that Google is checking the same website address.

Likely mistakes

  • Do not paste the whole HTML tag. Enter only the code.
  • This method suits a URL-prefix property. A Search Console domain property is verified through the domain’s DNS records, which this setting does not change.
  • This setting does not turn on Analytics or Tag Manager.
